Cochlear implant vs. upgraded BAHA.

In December 2016, I had ear surgery to get a BAHA — Bone Anchored Hearing Aid and wore it for seven years.

Throughout those years, the hearing in my left ear severely diminished, and my BAHA stopped working correctly.

My mom and I thought we would upgrade the BAHA; however, the Audiologist informed us that upgrading the device would not be beneficial.

That’s because an upgraded device would have the same volume limit as my old one but with more added special features.

The Audiologist also added that my only other option is a cochlear implant since the amount of hearing loss in my left ear is too severe, which rendered the BAHA and a regular hearing aid obsolete.

Knowing my options, my mom and I had a decision to make. Should I receive a cochlear implant or settle on an upgraded BAHA?

I went with the BAHA in 2016 because my doctor told me that was the only alternative since I couldn’t hear out of my ordinary hearing aid and didn’t qualify for a cochlear implant.
